Cockroach Control in Cape Town
Cockroaches are a warning sign, not just a nuisance. By the time you see one in daylight, there are usually many more in the wall voids and drains behind it. We find the harbourage, break the breeding cycle with gel bait, and proof the gaps they live in.

How do you get rid of cockroaches for good?
Lasting cockroach control needs gel bait and growth regulators, not surface spray. An inspection identifies the species and the harbourage — German cockroaches nest in warm kitchen voids, American cockroaches come up through drains. Targeted gel bait is placed where they feed and breed, an insect growth regulator stops the egg cases hatching, and gaps and drains are proofed. Spraying surfaces scatters them into wall cavities and makes the infestation harder to reach.
Signs you have cockroaches
Species drives the whole treatment. German cockroaches are small, breed explosively and live in warm, humid kitchen and appliance voids. American cockroaches are large, reddish-brown and travel up through drains and sewers. Each needs a different placement plan.
Seeing one roach in daylight usually means the harbourage is already crowded. Two or more of these signs means an active infestation.
Switching on a kitchen light and seeing them scatter for cover means numbers are high.
Small brown capsule-shaped cases glued into cracks, behind appliances and in cupboard corners.
Tiny black specks like ground pepper, or dark smear marks in cupboards and along skirtings.
A distinctive oily, musty smell that grows stronger as the infestation builds.
Pale cast skins near harbourage points as nymphs moult on their way to adulthood.
Chewed cardboard, paper and food packaging in pantries and storerooms.
BEFORE YOU TRY IT YOURSELF
Why shop-bought cockroach control usually fails
Supermarket sprays and foggers often make a German cockroach problem worse. Here is why.
Surface spray scatters them
A repellent spray kills the few roaches you see and drives the rest deeper into wall voids and neighbouring units — spreading the infestation instead of ending it.
Foggers miss the harbourage
“Bug bombs” settle on open surfaces but never reach the cracks, drains and appliance cavities where cockroaches actually live and breed.
Nothing stops the egg cases
A single ootheca holds dozens of eggs and shrugs off contact spray. Without an insect growth regulator the next generation hatches and the cycle restarts.
How our cockroach control service works
The same method works for a home kitchen and a busy restaurant — what changes is the documentation and frequency.
You get a written report after each visit.
Inspect
We check the kitchen, appliances, drains, voids and storerooms, and identify the species and the harbourage.
Identify
German or American cockroach — this determines gel placement, drain treatment and visit frequency.
Treat
Targeted gel bait in cracks and crevices, plus an insect growth regulator to break the breeding cycle. Discreet, low-odour, no need to vacate.
Proof
Drains screened, gaps around pipes and cupboards sealed, and moisture sources flagged — removing the conditions they need.
Follow up
A return visit confirms the population has crashed and the egg cases have not re-established. Ongoing cover available.
Home and business cockroach programmes
Same method, different documentation and frequency.

Why cockroaches are more than a nuisance
Cockroaches move between drains, refuse and food-preparation surfaces, carrying bacteria the whole way.
They also breed fast enough that a small problem becomes an infestation in weeks.
The two costs people underestimate are the health risk and, for businesses, the reputational one.
Food-borne bacteria
Cockroaches spread salmonella, E. coli and other pathogens across surfaces, crockery and stored food as they travel from drains to worktops.
Asthma and allergies
Cockroach droppings and shed skins are a well-documented trigger for asthma and allergic reactions, especially in children.
Business reputation
For any food premises, a single visible roach can mean a failed inspection, discarded stock and a review that stays online for years.
Rapid breeding
German cockroaches produce new generations continuously, so delay turns a contained problem into a building-wide one.
What does cockroach control cost in Cape Town?
We quote per property, because a flat with a single kitchen and a restaurant with a full prep line and drainage are very different jobs. Four things move the number:
- Species and severity — an early German cockroach problem is cheaper to resolve than an established, building-wide one.
- Size and complexity — how many rooms, appliances, drains and voids have to be treated.
- Whether proofing is needed — drain screening and sealing are quoted separately so the pricing is transparent.
- Once-off or ongoing — food premises usually need a scheduled programme, which lowers the per-visit cost.
The inspection and quote are free and carry no obligation. You will have the figure in writing before any gel is placed.

They are affordable and reliable. We started using them last year and being a backpacker's manager with such busy seasons we didn't have many complaints about having roaches in the rooms like before.

FAQs
How long does it take to get rid of cockroaches?
German cockroach infestations usually take two to four weeks to bring under control, because the treatment has to outlast the egg cases hatching. American cockroach issues tied to drains can resolve faster once the drains are treated and screened.
Is the gel bait safe around food and pets?
Yes. Gel is placed in cracks and crevices out of reach, in tiny amounts, and everything is applied to label. Unlike foggers, it does not require you to cover surfaces or leave the premises.
Why do cockroaches keep coming back?
Usually because the egg cases were never dealt with, or the drains and gaps they enter through were left open. Our treatment includes a growth regulator and proofing precisely so the cycle does not restart.
Do I need to empty my kitchen cupboards?
For a domestic treatment, usually only the affected cupboards. The technician will tell you exactly what to clear — far less disruption than a fumigation.
Are cockroaches a sign my home is dirty?
Not necessarily. German cockroaches often arrive in groceries, packaging or second-hand appliances, and American cockroaches come up from municipal drains. Cleanliness helps prevent them but does not cause them.
Can you treat a restaurant during trading?
Yes. Commercial treatments are scheduled around your hours, are low-odour and discreet, and come with the service records your health inspector will want to see.
What is the difference between German and American cockroaches?
German cockroaches are small, tan and live in warm kitchen voids where they breed rapidly. American cockroaches are large, reddish-brown and associated with drains and sewers. The species changes where and how we treat.
How much does cockroach control cost?
It depends on the species, the size of the property and whether proofing is needed. We inspect and quote free of charge, in writing, before any work begins.
