How do you safely remove a wasp nest?
Safe wasp nest removal means treating the nest at the right time, in protective equipment, so the colony is dealt with before it can swarm. A technician locates the nest and identifies the species, applies an insecticidal dust or treatment to the entrance so returning wasps carry it inside, and removes the nest once the colony is down. Spraying a nest from a distance or knocking it down provokes a mass defensive response — which is how most serious sting incidents happen.
Signs of a wasp nest
Species and location shape the job. Paper wasps build open honeycomb nests under eaves and beams; other wasps enclose nests in roofs, wall cavities and the ground. A nest in a cavity is more hazardous to disturb than an exposed one.
A steady stream of wasps to and from one point is the clearest sign of a nest — follow the traffic, not the individual wasps.
Wasps consistently entering and leaving one point — a roof edge, air brick, eaves gap or hole in the ground.
A papery grey nest under eaves, in a shed or in a tree, or an open honeycomb of paper cells.
A noticeable rise in wasp activity around the house through the warmer months as the colony grows.
A faint rustling or chewing from a wall cavity or ceiling where a hidden nest is being built.
Wasps becoming defensive when you approach a particular area — a sign the nest is close.
Repeated wasps inside a room can mean a nest in the adjoining cavity or roof void.
BEFORE YOU TRY IT YOURSELF
Why you should not remove a wasp nest yourself
This is the pest where DIY most often ends in the emergency room. The risks are not worth it.
Disturbance triggers a swarm
Knocking, spraying or blocking a nest makes the colony defend it en masse — dozens of stings in seconds, and a real danger to anyone nearby.
Retail sprays fall short
A can of spray rarely reaches or kills the whole nest, especially in a cavity, and provokes the colony without ending it.
Allergy and access risk
Wasp stings can cause severe allergic reactions, and nests in roofs and high eaves add a fall risk to the sting risk. Protective equipment and technique matter.
How our wasp nest removal works
We respond quickly, because an active nest near a doorway or play area is a safety issue.
The work is done in protective gear at the safest time of day.
Inspect
We locate the nest and flight path, identify the species and assess access and the risk to people and pets.
Identify
Paper wasp, other wasp or a bee — the species and nest type determine the safest method (and bees are handled differently).
Treat
An insecticidal dust or treatment applied to the nest entrance in protective equipment, so returning wasps carry it in and the colony collapses.
Remove
Once the colony is down, the nest is removed where it is safe and practical to do so, closing off the site.
Prevent
Advice on sealing likely nesting points — eaves gaps, air bricks and cavities — to discourage a new nest.

Why an active wasp nest needs prompt action
A wasp colony grows through the season and becomes more defensive as it does. An accessible nest near a door, patio or play area is a genuine safety risk, not just a nuisance.
The costs worth weighing are the sting risk, the danger to allergic people, and hidden structural nesting.
Painful stings
Unlike bees, wasps can sting repeatedly, and a disturbed colony delivers many stings in seconds.
Allergic reactions
Wasp venom can cause severe allergic reactions and, in sensitised people, life-threatening anaphylaxis.
Risk to children and pets
A nest near a play area, patio or pet space puts the most vulnerable at greatest risk of a serious sting incident.
Hidden cavity nests
Nests inside walls and roofs can grow large unseen and cause staining and damage as well as a sting hazard.
What does wasp nest removal cost in Cape Town?
We quote per nest, because an exposed nest under an eave and a hidden one in a wall cavity are different jobs. Four things move the number:
- Nest location — an accessible nest is quicker to treat than one deep in a cavity, roof void or high up.
- Access and height — whether ladders or access equipment are needed to reach the nest safely.
- Nest size — a large, well-established colony takes more to treat than an early-season nest.
- Number of nests — properties sometimes have more than one active nest, each needing treatment.
We provide the quote upfront and respond quickly to active nests. There is no obligation, and you will have the figure before we start.

They are affordable and reliable. We started using them last year and being a backpacker's manager with such busy seasons we didn't have many complaints about having roaches in the rooms like before.

FAQs
Can I remove a wasp nest myself?
We strongly advise against it. Disturbing a nest provokes a defensive swarm and multiple stings, and cavity or high nests add access and fall risks. Professional removal in proper protective gear is far safer.
How quickly can you come out?
We prioritise active nests, especially near doorways, patios and play areas, and aim to respond as quickly as possible. Contact us with the location and we will advise on timing.
Is it a wasp or a bee?
Wasps have a smooth, slender body with a defined waist and can sting repeatedly; honeybees are hairier and rounder. Bees are ecologically important and handled differently — we identify which you have before acting.
Will the wasps come back after removal?
Once a colony is treated and the nest removed, that nest is finished. New nests can form in future seasons, which is why we advise on sealing likely nesting points.
Is the treatment safe for my family and pets?
Yes, when done by a professional. We treat at the safest time of day, keep people and pets clear during treatment, and advise when the area is safe again.
What time of day do you treat wasp nests?
Wasps are calmest and most of the colony is home at dusk and dawn, which is often the safest and most effective time to treat. We will confirm the best window for your nest.
Do you deal with nests inside walls and roofs?
Yes. Cavity and roof-void nests are treated at the entrance so returning wasps carry the treatment inside. These are exactly the nests that are most dangerous to tackle yourself.
How much does wasp nest removal cost?
It depends on the nest location, access, size and number of nests. We provide a quote upfront, with no obligation, before any work starts.
