How Osprey captures flying insects
Osprey units attract and capture adult flying insects. They do not directly treat eggs, larvae or pupae, so hygiene and breeding-site prevention remain important.
Attract with UV-A
Fluorescent or LED UV-A lamps attract flying insects. The reflective contrast grid helps guide them towards the landing area.
Capture on a glueboard
A temperature-optimised glueboard holds insects inside the unit, without an electric killing grid or insecticide spray.
Maintain the unit
Check the glueboard regularly and replace it when needed. Fluorescent lamps have a one-year life; LED lamps have a three-year life.
Fix what draws them
Keep bins closed, clean up food waste and repair screens. A trap cannot replace removing the places where flies feed and breed.

Shut the doors
Screen the windows, seal the gaps around doors, and keep food covered. Most flies get in through the openings you can see.
Clear the breeding sites
Lid the bins, turn the compost under, and clear it often. Flies lay in whatever is left rotting and open.
