Bed Bug Species
Common bed bugs are the most common bed bugs found in human homes. The species evolved to specialize in feeding on humans. Originally from the Middle East, the bed bug is the first creature to be called a “bug.” Other species of bed bugs are known to feed exclusively on bats, rodents, or birds.
Bed bugs are attracted to humans by both the thermal radiation they emit and the carbon dioxide we exhale. An infestation of bed bugs can quickly multiply if left unchecked as individual bugs return each night to feed on their victims. It is estimated that female bed bugs can lay one to five eggs per day, which can result in an overwhelming infestation.
